Maa Brick Project

Description

Maa Brick's goal was to develop a sustainable construction company by training local youth in innovative sustainable building technologies. This aim was to create a village construction company matrix in partnership with Builders of Hope. Using the sustainable construction company, Maa Brick aimed to build an Enterprise Incubation Hub, toilets, and dormitory rooms at The Maa Trust HQ. The Hub was built to introduce computer-based career guidance, nurture entrepreneurs and youth groups, and demonstrate sustainable technologies.

Maa Brick empowered youth and nurture entrepreneurship by creating a sustainable construction company and demonstrating the potential of sustainable technologies, including solar power, rainwater harvesting, and alternative fuel sources. The youth trained by Maa Brick made an impact by producing 110,000 bricks that were used in the construction of Maa Trust facilities. Through the training and internship experience provided by Maa Brick, 40 young men learned the skills needed to construct buildings using hydraulically compressed stabilized soil bricks. After receiving their safety standard approval certificate in March 2019, Maa Brick used their bricks to construct various buildings, including a vocational training center, staff accommodation, personal houses, and beadwork satellite centres. At their peak, Maa Brick has been able to produce up to 1,000 bricks a day.
